Vinyl siding starter strip placement. Position the starter strip even with the top edge of the chalk line and allow room for corner posts. Determine the lowest point on the wall where the siding is to be installed. The horizontal lap is the most common and our main focus. Measure down from the soffit at one corner of the house to the top of the foundation and subtract 1/4” (6.4mm) less than the width of the starter strip.
